Amid all the buzz around big screen releases, Netflix's original Jogi, starring Diljit Dosanjh, has managed to grab the eyeballs. The film, set in the backdrop of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, has turned out to be a success for its storyline and presentation. Now, the maker of the Netflix original, Ali Abbas Zafar has reacted to the success of Jogi while talking about lead actor Diljit.

Ali Abbas Zafar says he is inspired by filmography of Late Yash Chopra; talks about Jogi’s commercial language

During his conversation with Pinkvilla, the director was asked to shed some light on switching gears from the event cinema to films like Jogi. In his response, Ali asserted, “I have been fortunate enough to do the big tentpole films, which have done big business at the box office. But, as a filmmaker and a storyteller, it is also important to understand the stories which excite you. I really admire the work of filmmakers who have been diverse in their choices. “

Continuing, Zafar added, “I am highly inspired by the filmography of Late Yash Chopra Ji – He made all kinds of films. Jogi is one of those stories that was with me for very long and I just wanted to make it at the right time.” Explaining his approach towards making a film, he said, “We didn’t want to make a film that’s very small in terms of appeal to the audience. The language of Jogi is commercial – it’s gripping, thrilling and emotional”.

Meanwhile, in the conversation, the 40-year-old filmmaker also shared the details of the making process of Jogi. He said, “We wanted this story to reach out to maximum people. Be it me as a director, Himanshu as a producer, or Diljit as an actor. I was very clear, I don’t want this film to be termed one of those art-house films”.

Talking about the film, Jogi is available on the streaming giant from September 16, 2022. Along with Diljit Dosanjh, it also features Kumud Mishra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Hiten Tejwani and Amyra Dastur.
