“Lights, camera, action!” comes to mind as soon as you think about the film industry. However, it's just the tip of the iceberg. The process of making a successful film also includes distribution by exhibitors. Discussing the same, recently, a renowned film exhibitor Manoj Desai reacted to OTT vs theatrical releases. In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the veteran exhibitor drew a line between OTT and theatre while throwing some light on the aspect that makes the latter superior to the former format.

Sharing his piece of mind on films released directly on OTT, Desai briefly discusses the format of a theatre that is LCR (Left, Center, and Right). He asserted, “Extreme left, extreme right aur extreme back; ye teen surrounding public ke beech mein hota hain. Uskey andar jo sound aata hain uski baat hi kuch aur hoti hain. Aur uss sound ke uppar toh aaj DDLJ chal rahi hain.”

Though the veteran film exhibitor admitted that OTT provides comfort to the viewer, he said, “8 track digital stereo toh theatre mein hi milega.” Later on, he addressed the success of Akshay Kumar starrer Cuttputlli, which was directly released on Disney+ Hotstar. He added, “Aaj OTT par king ho, 125 crore kamaa liye. Kal kisney dekha hai OTT?” To support his statement, Desai explained that advanced TV, and its facilities.

Before conclusion, he recalled his tiff with Vijay Deverakonda and how it resolved. Desai said, “Chota scree, chota screen hota hai”, and requested actors to not tell the audience to consume OTT content.
