From legendary sports persons to eminent politicians, there has been a noticeable trend in Bollywood on making biographical films. Among many others, actress Deepika Padukone has portrayed great historic personalities such as Queen Padmaavati and Princess from Bundelkhand Mastani. Besides this, she also essayed the character of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in her 2020 release Chhapaak. The film received rave reviews, but it didn’t turn out to be as successful as one would expect. Recently, Vikrant Massey, who played Deepika’s love interest in the biographical drama, stated that he is still “proud” of Chhapaak despite its box-office performance. It all happened during a fun rapid-fire round with ETimes. The portal asked Vikrant if he was disappointed when Chhapaak didn’t do well at the box office. To which, he immediately replied, “Not at all. I’m very proud of that film. It didn’t do well for multiple reasons, but the intent with which we made the film was bang-on.” When asked to elaborate on the “multiple reasons,” Vikrant said, “You know the political s**t that happened after that.” For the unversed, the Meghna Gulzar directorial found itself at the centre of a controversy after Deepika’s decision to support the students of JNU in a strike, days before the film’s release. Coming back to Vikrant Massey, the 35-year-old actor is currently busy with promotions of his upcoming film Gaslight. Slated to release on Disney+ Hotstar, it will also feature Sara Ali Khan and Chitrangda Singh in the lead while Akshay Oberoi, Shishir Sharma and Rahul Dev will be playing other significant characters. The psychological thriller will start streaming on the OTT platform from March 31 onwards.
